Shopapalooza - The local alternative to Black Friday!

Posted by Sara O'Brien on

Hopefully by now most of you know about the 2014 Shopapalooza Festival. It's taking place this Saturday, November 22nd from 10 to 7 in South Straub Park in Downtown St. Pete! The event is put on by Local Shops1 and it is their biggest event of the year. What makes this festival so great is that it brings together more than 130 locally owned shops, restaurants, art galleries, service providers and community organizations all offering awesome black friday like shopping discounts! It's the local version of Black Friday to be more precise!

This is an all day, family friendly event featuring giveaways and raffles, shopping with tons of sales, a beer garden with local craft beers, entertainment all day long and a children's area. Not to mention it is sponsored by a number of excellent organizations and businesses like the Rotary Club of St. Petersburg Sunset, Moorman Photographics, American Stage Theatre Co., TBO.com, St. Petersburg Tribune, Great Explorations Children's Museum, Bright House Networks, BeachLife Entertainment Guide and of course the City of St. Petersburg.

I had a friend come up to me the other night and tell me that her goal this year, is to shop local for all of her holiday gifts. I think that this is a brilliant idea! Avoid the big box stores and support the hard work of small business owners. It's our passion and hard work that even allow us to be a part of events like this. And it's nice to help out the little guy once in a while!

See you there!! Until then, have a Wide Sky Week!!
